Five-Star Overall Rating by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services |
Â鶹¹ÙÍø is pleased to announce it has achieved a Five-Star Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The Overall Rating is based on exceptional performance across five quality measures, including mortality, safety readmission, patient experience, and timely and effective care. Â鶹¹ÙÍø is the only hospital in the Inland Northwest to earn a Five-Star Overall Rating and one of only 13% of all hospitals in the nation to earn this achievement.
American College of Radiology Accreditation |
Kootenai Outpatient Imaging is one of 300 facilities in the U.S. to be designated as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). To earn this designation, Kootenai’s breast imaging services have been fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.
Kootenai Outpatient Imaging was also commended in peer-review evaluations conducted by physicians and medical physicists, which noted high practice standards for image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.

Get With The Guidelines?-Resuscitation Silver Award – Kootenai received the Get With The Guidelines?-Resuscitation Silver Award in 2019 for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association for the treatment of patients who suffer cardiac arrests in the hospital.

Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award – This award recognizes Â鶹¹ÙÍø’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.

Kootenai Clinic Cancer Services has been accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer since 1990. The CoC is a nationally recognized multidisciplinary accreditation program that has developed comprehensive, patient-centered standards for cancer programs. Cancer Services has continuously demonstrated compliance and commitment to providing high-quality cancer care.
Breast Center of Excellence, NAPBC |
Kootenai Clinic Cancer Services was granted a full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.
Neurodiagnostic Excellence, ABRET Certification
American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists. The EEG Laboratory in Neurodiagnostics Services at Â鶹¹ÙÍø received this accreditation in 2007. Kootenai represents the 22nd facility in the nation and the only group in the Northwest to receive this distinction.

In 2024, Â鶹¹ÙÍø was verified as a Level II Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. To receive verification, Kootenai had to prove it has the hospital resources needed for trauma care and can provide the entire spectrum of care to meet all of an injured patient¡¯s needs. Reviewers evaluated every phase of trauma patient care.

Kootenai has maintained Magnet? status since 2006. This designation is nursing’s top honor, accepted nationally as the gold standard for nursing excellence. Â鶹¹ÙÍø is the only Magnet hospital in the inland Northwest and is proud to have achieved its fourth magnet designation.
Level III NICU
In 2016, Kootenai was named a Level III NICU. We can care for babies born as early as 28 weeks gestation, and those as small as 2 pounds. All nursing and respiratory therapy staff have undergone the education and training necessary to provide Level III intensive care to our neonates.
